Vegetarians Have The Best Blood

Looking to lower your blood pressure, be thinner and generally be healthier in your day-to-day life? Then you may want to consider picking up a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Dr. Neal Barnard, a leading doctor and author of 15 books about the benefits a life-prolonging vegetarian diet, recently published a piece in the Journal of the American Medical Association: Internal Medicine on the subject. In his research, he and his colleagues found very promising health benefits of the vegetarian diet, and the main one is lower blood pressure.

A plant-based diet is one of the best ways to lower blood pressure, which is a serious thing when you consider what high blood pressure can do to someone. High blood pressure has been known to shorten lives and contribute to heart disease. It is also known to be the cause of kidney failure, dementia and a whole lot of other undesirable conditions.

The U.S. National Institutes of Health’s DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) studies also found that vegetarians have lower blood pressure than their omnivore counterparts.

Having a plant-based diet is what is beneficial here. Vegetarians who consume cheese and eggs will typically be heavier than vegans who eliminate the whole animal from their eating habits. However, all plant-based diets tend to be much lighter and have lower blood pressure than meat eaters.
