Don't get down on yourself when you see a wrinkle pop up on your face. Even celebrities deal with body struggles on a daily basis. Most admit to being self-conscious about their legs or stomachs, and we can all relate. Rather than get down on ourselves about these little things, we need to take a step back and appreciate the way we look more.
Our guide to boosting body confidence will not only make you feel better about the way you look, but it’ll also give you a couple secrets on how to feel even more gorgeous!
1. Measure Again – Just because you’ve been wearing a 36-C bra for years doesn’t mean that it’s the right fit for you. Get re-measured, and trust what the fitter has to say. After all, she is a professional. Once you have the right size, pick out a nude-colored bra, a black one and one with a fun color. Your clothing will fit better now, and you might even look a few sizes slimmer now that you’re wearing the right bra. That's enough to make us smile!
2. Shop ‘Til You Drop – Buying a new outfit that fits you to a T can give you a bit of style, but it can also make you feel so much better about yourself! Why? Everyone likes to look good, and if the outfit accentuates your long legs or your lean arms, you’ll look twice as hot. If you’re a little nervous to shop, ask a friend to come with. She can give you outfit ideas or let you know which top to buy and which to leave at the store.
3. Become a Yogi – There are so many different varieties of yoga that it’s a cinch to find your perfect match nowadays. From meditative yoga to others that are more intense, you’ll actually feel your body stretch and strengthen after a couple consistent weeks of practice. Plus, it gives you an excuse to buy a new pair of yoga pants, and you know your butt will look good in them!
4. Silky Smooth – Making sure that your skin looks its best can do a number for your self-confidence. Since your skin is one of the first things that people notice when they first meet you, we want yours to look soft and smooth. Exfoliate your skin once a week to eliminate any dead skin that is lingering on the surface, then follow up with a moisturizer. If you don’t have any allergies, try one that is scented.
5. Farewell Scale – While the scale can be your best friend after you’ve lost a couple pounds, it can also become your worst enemy just as quickly. Instead of tying how you feel to the number staring you in the face, understand that it’s normal for women to fluctuate between 5 and 7 pounds. If your clothes are still fitting comfortably and you haven’t noticed any extra pudge when you glance in the mirror, then there’s no reason to panic. You still look good!
6. Skip Magazines – There’s lots of fabulous information in your favorite healthy living magazines, but unfortunately, the pictures are anything but. The majority of them feature models who are way too thin, and are probably air-brushed. It’s easy to fall into the comparison trap, so don’t let those stars bring you down. Instead, take a glance at the world around you next time you go out. Women with model-like proportions are in the minority, so take pride in the fact that you’re not only healthy, but that you don’t need to be Photo-Shopped to look beautiful.
7. Words of Wisdom – Negative self-talk won't do you any favors, so banish those words from your vocabulary. Tell yourself something that you like about yourself instead. Choose one personality trait, a physical feature and a recent accomplishment. After, give yourself a couple goals to work toward. You’ll not only feel more capable of reaching those dreams, but you’ll also gain a bit of confidence to get started.
8. Get Moving – A little bit of exercise can not only tighten muscles you didn’t know existed but it can improve your mood and raise your self-esteem. If you’re not used to exercising, start slow with a 15 minute walk every couple of days. Increase the duration of these walks or the intensity as the days pass. If you really want to go all-out, consider joining a gym. You’ll be surrounded by like-minded people who are trying to get fit, and you’ll boost body confidence!
