BIKRAM YOGA

In this vigorous style of yoga, the room is heated to approximately 100 degrees. There is a set order of 26 different yoga poses and 2 breathing excercises in Bikram. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles and joints while stimulating different nerves in the body. it is a restorative process that aids in flexibility and overall health.

It should be noted that this is a more difficult form of yoga due to the heated room and number of poses and should be attempted only by those with previous yoga instruction.

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Restorative yoga utilizes support blocks that allow the body to hold poses for longer. Restorative postures are adapted from seated yoga poses and are therefore a more gentle form of yoga that beginners can feel comfortable with. Other adaptations of typical yoga poses include a version of the  goddess pose. This form of yoga is relaxing and less of a strain on the body when compared to Bikram or Ashtanga. It is an ideal place to start after completing a beginner yoga class or DVD.

ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga is a yoga practice that occurs individiually before a class. A student pratices a set series of poses and works on perfecting poses they already know in order to move on to more challenging moves. The Primary Series is the first series in Ashtanga yoga. This form of yoga is definitely high-energy and pretty demanding; the people who gravitate towards it are usually looking for a yoga challenge. Once the moves are perfected, participants feel a great amount of pride in their progress. Self-motivated yoga enthusiasts will enjoy practicing and perfecting these moves at home. If you are more suited to working out on your own at home, this is the form of yoga for you.
