7 Popular Diets: Which is Right for You? PDF Print E-mail
Dieting is tricky, and mostly because an effective diet needs to be a way of living and eating that can be maintained throughout a lifetime.  But all too often, the idea of a 'diet' has become fleeting, something used to shed a few pounds. The problem with this short-term approach is that the weight lost returns quickly once a normal lifestyle is resumed.

The key to finding the right diet, one that you can use as a foundation for how you eat for the rest of your life, is to find a diet that fits your lifestyle.  If you absolutely cannot live without pasta, for example, then a carb-restrictive diet is probably not a good fit. Here are some of the most popular diets out there and a little bit about each one to help you find the diet that's right for you!

The Biggest Loser

Nearly five years ago NBC introduced some of the biggest losers television has ever seen- and audiences couldn't have been more enthusiastic about embracing them and cheering them on. "The Biggest Loser" will begin its eighth season in the fall of 2009 and has grown to become one of the most popular programs on TV. Not only has Biggest Loser touched millions of Americans, but now reaches more than 50 countries, with places like Australia and Guam hosting their own series.

The Whole Foods Diet

while many diets focus on eliminating food groups and taking extreme measures to monitor food intake, one of the newer diet trends is about incorporating healthful foods rather than restricting foods. The whole foods craze has been spreading, and it's a good thing because eating whole foods is a practical way of eating that gets your body the nutrients it needs. What are whole foods anyway? They are simply foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. They are foods that have not been processed or refined, and don't contain additives and preservatives.

Jenny Craig

The Jenny Craig approach is built on three tenets: food, body and mind. The food element focuses on healthy eating and portion control and also teaches you how to eat the foods you love in moderation, and the body element focuses on exercise, overcoming barriers and being physically active. The mind element focuses on positive thinking and getting the support you need to reach your weight loss goals.

Volumetrics

Don't let the word "diet" fool you.  Volumetrics is more of a complete lifestyle change. What does it mean to follow the Volumetrics weight loss plan?  It's simple! It means you get to eat more food while consuming fewer calories. Unlike many diets that leave your plate looking bare, the volumetrics diet advocates eating enough food to fully satisfy you.

High Protein

Complex carbs, such as rice and pasta are healthy in moderation, but are high in calories. A high protein diet is versatile - it's perfect for those who want to build muscle, gain weight and even lose weight and stay toned!
