3 Ways to Save on Groceries Many people are strapped for cash this Summer, and even if you aren't, doesn't it feel great to save your dough wherever and whenever you can? Use these 3 easy tips for saving the green when you hit the grocery!

Generic=Good

You have probably heard the rumors, and they're true! Many generic ("off") brands and store-brand items are the same products you're paying $2 - $5 more for. Items such as potato chips, crackers (the occasional carb is okay!) and various paper products are reliable quality purchases. You can save $20 - $50 in one shopping trip; the more products you buy generic, the more you save.

Think Leftovers!

When you are making your next shopping trip, keep the idea of leftovers in the front of your mind. So many dishes are better when re-heated, and if you can save on a product such as chicken or beef, you can make enough of an entree for a family to eat for 2-3 days. Keep it fun for the kids and mix it up by serving leftovers with a different side dish or create a twist on a dish by adding a different sauce or cheese when reheating on the stove or in the oven.

Solo Shopper

You know exactly what happens when you add more people to the mix- trouble! Shopping with the entire family means a longer receipt and more money coming out of your checking account. Leave the kids at home with the babysitter; they tend to beg for sweets and junk food that no one in the family needs. Your diet will be healthier AND your wallet thicker when you shop on your own. The occasional splurge on treats is okay, but it's not something you want to make a regular thing when you consider your family, their waistlines AND your purse strings!
