Ticks can be tricky creatures. They attach and embed their head inside human skin, leaving the bulk of its body outside. Here's the proper way to remove a tick.
Without touching the tick with your bare skin, cover it with oil or petroleum jelly. Use tweezers to grab the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull the tick straight out in the direction it is embedded. Check that the head and mouth are removed with the body. Wash your hands and rub the area with antiseptic. Drop the removed tick into alcohol and keep it in case a doctor needs to see what kind of tick it was. If the head remains in, consult your doctor right away.
