A little H20 does a body good. You haven't been drinking it, you say you will, but you constantly reach for a sugary soda or fruit juice laced with high-fructose corn syrup. What can a few glasses of water each day do for you? It can improve your health, your love life, your happiness- doesn't that seem like an excellent reason to try a glass or two? Keep reading for the major health benefits you have been missing- and how they can lead to a longer and happier life!
Water- it's free! You don't have to spend a dime unless you choose to purchase a filter or bottled water. It's something that comes from the sky, and is therefore as natural as a beverage comes. Why should you be drinking it? You may not like it every much, but here are the reasons you should be ready to fall in love with water!
You don't need to drink 8 glasses. You are absorbing water from other foods, like raw vegetables, so you don't really need to be drinking 8 full glasses a day, though 2-4 glasses would certainly improve your mood! Broccoli alone is made up of over 90% water! Water cleans out your system, keeps your head clear and is the perfect pre-workout or post-workout hydration!
Zero calories. You may think you're doing yourself a favor by purchasing a sports beverage in bulk, but the truth is that many of those products, though they contain electrolytes, also contain calories that you don't need. If you take a break every 15-20 minutes during a long workout for water, that will help you much more than a jumbo-size bottle that often has almost the same amount of calories found in a can of soda pop! Reach for some water instead- your body will thank you!
Ward off weight gain and disease and keep healthy with water. If you have diabetes, you will want to increase your intake of fluids, and water is the best place to start! Prevent weight gain by replacing those favorite alcoholic and syrupy beverages with a tall glass of water. It may not sound exciting, but soon you will find yourself craving it. We rarely feel energized by a can of soda, but after a few glasses of water, we feel revived and ready to take on the world!
Pay attention to: your urine. You may not like to look at it, but the darker your urine is, the less hydrated you are. You will know when you've had enough water, because your urine will not appear as discolored. Drinking coffee and soda throughout the day will contribute to your lack of hydration. Your body loses water through everyday sweating, so why lose more with these beverages that have no health benefits? Sip some water on the way to work instead of a coffee once a week and notice the significant difference!
