The 6 Things We Wish We Knew At Age 21 PDF Print E-mail
"Woulda, coulda, shoulda." We all wish we could turn back time at some point, but what would we tell our younger self? "Don't date that guy", perhaps, or "Don't drink too much". There are a lot of things people would like to change and can't- and then there are proactive ways to fix damage done or improve our current life in easy ways, whether it's taking care of our mind, body or spirit. Keep reading to find out how you can improve your life in 6 easy ways!

Never Settle.
It's easy to fall into a rut with a person or a place when you are young. Many of us stay in bad relationships, jobs or environments because it's easier than doing something about it and taking the first steps towards change. You can do wonders when you put your mind to it, so spread your wings and fly! Even if you're a more mature woman, you can always make a positive change in your life - it is never too late to change something for the better! Whether it involves a relationship or a healthier lifestyle, you can do it! Taking the first step is always the hardest part- it is a lot easier once you get in the groove!

Drink More H2O.
From detoxing to keeping your skin and body hydrated, it seems that drinking water is the one thing so many people didn't do when they were young (root beer floats, anyone?); it's something they can remedy now. When you wake up, drink a glass of water to get your daily metabolism going, and if you reach for a salty treat, nothing will help you wash those calories down better than a glass of water. Try and substitute a glass of the clear stuff for your morning coffee or PM soda pop. You will see (and feel) the difference!

Don't Rush.
Sometimes thinking something over before diving in is the best approach. When we are younger, we tend to think of ourselves as being invincible; it isn't until later in life when we start to realize that life is short and anything can happen. While we should enjoy life at every opportunity, we should also think before leaping. A sprint to the finish line won't always give you the best results; sometimes we need to take it slow and stop to smell the roses. Take life as it comes - enjoy it!

Enjoy Life, But Spend Less.
When we are young, we tend to take money less seriously than when we are older. Some people learn that lesson at a young age (a sign of excellent parenting), but others often don't; those people often end up in trouble with finances, which leads to stress. Don't be cheap because you are on a budget - leave good tips if you decide to treat yourself to a lobster dinner - but also make those excursions special. If they happen less frequently, they will mean all the more!

Travel.
Again, this is something that can be done in today's day and age without spending an arm and a leg. 'Staycations' are a popular way to enjoy the city or town you live in. Visit the local 'touristy' sites, historical markers and general places of interest. Put yourself up at the luxury hotel that overlooks the downtown area or try out that new bed and breakfast in the town next to yours. Even when you travel to locations outside your area, you can utilize discount websites to find cheaper hotel rooms and combined airfare so that you can spend more on a nice dinner and tour. If you are going to be enjoying a city for the majority of the time, opt for a lower end hotel- you're only sleeping and showering there, after all!

Wear SPF.
The end all, be all! If you're still young, preserve your youth. If you spent your younger years in the backyard with the hot sun, a tub of Crisco and a water hose to cool off, you may have spotty sun damage (or worse - skin cancer) now. Tanning (whether it's the sun 20 years ago or a tanning bed today) is dangerous, and wearing SPF even when you're outside briefly is vital to your well-being. So many makeup products like tinted moisturizer and powder now have SPF built-in, so that's a no brainer! Check out similar products and keep a hat at the ready for those super-sunny days - especially when you book your budget trip to that sunny destination!
