5 Steps to a Weekend-Proof Diet PDF Print E-mail
When the weekend arrives, does your diet go out the window?  If you’re super disciplined during the week, splurging on the weekend can destroy all your hard work in minutes!  Don’t give into temptation just because you’re out with friends; follow these helpful hints and your diet will be weekend-proof for good!

On a Lazy Day
If all you want to do this weekend is lay in bed and surf the web, try your best to keep yourself busy, instead.  There are other ways to stay home that don’t involve you firmly planted on the couch.  Finish up the chores you’ve been meaning to do, or try reading that new book you got from the library.  Boredom leads to mindless snacking, so keep your mind and body occupied as much as possible.  Also, the more you move around, the more calories you're burning; grab the vacuum and burn away!

During Movie Night
While you’re watching the latest Brad Pitt flick, don’t provide yourself with a smorgasbord of snacks.  Pop yourself some low-calorie popcorn (without butter flavoring or salt) and pour it into a small bowl to avoid over-snacking.  Drink plenty of water throughout the movie, as well; doing so will keep you feeling fuller and stop you from reaching for seconds.

At a Bar
Experts recommend ordering something other than your favorite drink, as you’re bound to get refills of your fave over and over again.  That doesn’t mean you should have a banana daiquiri, though; stick to a low-cal option like a gin and tonic or a light beer.  Have glasses of water between alcoholic drinks, as well.  Water will keep you full, prevent hangovers, and provide you with a calorie-free alternative to booze.  If you’re embarrassed about sipping a glass of water at a bar, order some tonic water with lime.  Nobody will know the difference!

Out Shopping
Shopping malls are filled with unhealthy snacks.  Don’t reach for that giant pretzel or that ice cream cone just because you have no other options.  Bring a small baggie of almonds or some whole grain crackers to munch on.  They will provide you with energy and nutrients, plus they’ll fill your snack craving in a way that a sugary cinnamon bun won’t!  If you don’t want to bring snacks to the mall, make sure you eat a healthy and filling meal before you go shopping.  Bring along some sugarless gum to chew in case a craving hits.

At a Restaurant
Start with a small salad with the dressing on the side.  It will provide you with vitamins and minerals, plus it will prevent you from overeating.  Sit next to a diet-conscious friend for support, and pick meals that are high in fiber, lean protein, and veggies.  Grilled fish with brown rice and veggies, for example, would be a tasty and shape-friendly meal.  Try to eat only half of your meal, and take the rest home in a doggie bag.  Most restaurants serve you much more food than you should eat in one sitting.
