We all enjoy a coffee or chocolate treat now and then, whether it comes in the form of a hot chocolate, a vanilla latte, a smoothie or a shake. The only thing we don't like is when we end up eating our weight in calories that we don't need to be consuming. Keep reading for the best guiltless drinks that fast food places feature on their menus!
Coffee Coffee isn't going to fill you up with bad calories unless you are pouring in the creamer and sugar or sweetener. When you buy a fast food coffee, whether it's hot or iced, you should always ask for no sugar or creamer. You can always get the single serving size to put in yourself. What happens when you don't specify is that you get a cup pumped full of heavy creamer and pure sugar, which automatically creates a high-fat, high-sugar beverage.
Fast Food Option: A McDonald's small nonfat Iced Latte is just the ticket. If you want a bit more coffee, ask for easy ice. Low in sugar with no fat.
Smoothie When you think of a terrific high-protein option for before a workout, you probably think of a healthy smoothie. The truth is, however, that places like Jamba Juice make beverages that can have up to 550 calories and over 120 grams of sugar. We love our Jamba Juice- so what's the alternative? This smoothie is more of a special treat and not a workout protein replacement, so keep that in mind!
Fast Food Option: Jamba Juice's 16 oz. Mega Mango All-Fruit smoothie.
Shake Once in awhile, a shake is a nice way to end a Friday or Saturday movie night. It shouldn't be a shake that contains as many calories as that soda and popcorn you enjoyed at the theater, however! Instead of indulging in a heavy milk chocolate shake (which can boast over 500 calories depending on the additions; sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.), enjoy a lighter version!
Fast Food Option: Burger King's small Chocolate Shake with no syrup added has under 340 calories. It's not perfect, but it's a treat you won't toss and turn over!
