We’ve all heard about vitamin C before, but what exactly does it do and how much do we need each day?  We’re here to fill you in on all things vitamin C, from foods with vitamin C, to the benefits of vitamin C, to how to avoid a vitamin C overdose.  

What is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin and an essential nutrient.
Benefits of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant, so it fights against free radicals in your body, slows the aging process, and prevents dangerous diseases such as cancer and heart disease.  Vitamin C is also an important component of growth and repair in your body.  It helps form collagen and repair wounds, amongst many other things.  Furthermore, vitamin C prevents the development of scurvy.
Vitamin C Overdose
The recommended daily allowances of vitamin C are 90 mg for adult males and 75 mg for adult females.  You should consume no more than 2,000 mg per day of vitamin C or you may risk experiencing adverse effects, such as indigestion and diarrhea.
