Sure, we know soup can be great for you, but can it help someone lose weight? Apparently. Many people try the seven day cabbage soup diet for rapid weight loss. Fans of the diet claim to be 10 pounds lighter in that short time span. 

The diet keeps your attention focused on a low fat, low calorie intake for seven days. The limited menu is less than 1,000 calories a day, so pounds will come off quickly. Heavy consumption of cabbage soup is the foundation of this radical weight reduction diet. Many people see this diet as a great way to trim some pounds before a special day or to kick-start a longer term diet.   

Beverages are limited to water and unsweetened fruit juice on certain days. 

The recommended seven day menu is:

Day 1 - Cabbage soup and fruit (except bananas)

Day 2 – Cabbage soup and vegetables

Day 3 - Cabbage soup, fruit and vegetables (except bananas and potatoes)  

Day 4 - Cabbage soup, up to eight bananas and skim milk

Day 5 - Cabbage soup, beef and vegetables (except potatoes)

Day 6 - Cabbage soup, beef and vegetables (except potatoes)

Day 7 - Cabbage soup, brown rice, vegetables and juice

Most of the initial loss is water, so it’s not permanent. Some feel the calorie count per day is not healthy, and others complain about flatulence from the cabbage.  However, men and women who do try the diet are usually quite pleased with the rapid weight loss.
