“Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.” – Oprah Winfrey
As December draws to a close, the excitement for New Year’s Eve begins to bubble up! Amidst the hustle to secure extravagant plans, find sequined outfits, and prepare for the festivities, don’t forget about your nails. A stunning manicure is the perfect finishing touch to ring in the New Year in style.
Fear not! The team at Fit and Fab Living is here to save your fashion crisis once again. Whether you’re rocking sparkly velvet, chiffon, or a simple cotton outfit, these easy gold-dipped nails will have your friends saying, “OMG, your nails!” as you toast to the New Year with champagne.
What You’ll Need
- Natural Nail Base Coat (we recommend OPI)
- Matte Top Coat (also OPI)
- Black Polish (we used Xtreme Wear Black by Sally Hansen)
- Gold Polish (we used Swing Baby by China Glaze)
- Notecard, magazine page, or cardstock
- Paint Brush (easier to use than a dotting tool, though the polish brush can work too)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1:
Start by applying your base coat to your tips and allow it to dry completely.
Step 2:
Next, paint two coats of your Xtreme Wear Black on your nails, letting each coat dry for a few minutes.
Step 3:
Apply the OPI Matte Top Coat and let it dry thoroughly. Using a matte finish enhances the pop of your sparkly tips! If you don’t have a matte top coat, you can use a regular top coat at the end.
Step 4:
Now, it’s time to add your gold tips! You can choose from two methods:
- Method 1: Dab some Swing Baby polish on a notecard and use a brush to create a horizontal line about halfway up your nail, then paint to the tip.
- Method 2: Use your polish brush to paint from the middle of your nail to the tip, moving from one side to the other.
If you’re using a polish with a thicker brush, consider a paint brush for better accuracy.
Another great aspect of this design is its versatility! You can easily switch the black polish for another color that complements your New Year’s outfit. For a trendy touch, consider shades like Radiant Orchid, the 2014 Color of the Year. Try colors like Anti-Break by OPI or Plum Power by Butter London.
Cheers to the New Year and happy polishing!
