Summer days are here again and with that hot summer sun comes many dangers to our skin. From sunburns to skin disease flare-ups, here are some simple tips to keep your skin feeling and looking beautiful this summer.
Don’t Forgo the Sunscreen
While a nice summer tan is enticing, be sure to wear a sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays. Over 90 percent of ultraviolet radiation is UVA, which is strongest in the early morning and afternoon. If you are eager to have that summer glow, opt for a sunless self-tanner, a spray tan, or airbrushing.
Drink Plenty of Water
Sun can dry your skin and make you sweat more, so keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Prevent Skin Condition Flare-Ups
Many common skin diseases such as roseacea, eczema and psoriasis can be exacerbated by heat and the sun. If you are prone to flare-ups in the summer try to keep cool by wearing lightweight clothing, and make sure to rinse off immediately and apply a moisturizer after swimming. This will help you avoid drying out your skin. Speak with your dermatologist about potential treatments that could help suppress the symptoms. For example, XTrac laser treatments for psoriasis can have your skin summer-ready in just a few short sessions.
Sun, sand, sweat, and sunscreen only increase the amount of dead skin cells that build up on your face and body. Use an exfoliating scrub a few times each week to banish the dead skin cells.
Use Lip Balm
Lips are susceptible to drying out and even to skin cancer, so remember to protect them, as well. Use a lip balm with SPF of at least 15 percent to keep lips sun-safe and moisturized.
