How many years have you been washing your face? Probably ever since you can remember. Even before you used fancy products to fight acne and other skin related issues you probably splashed some water on yourself just to get that refreshing feeling that comes from being immersed in water. I bet in all those years you never thought that you could possibly be doing it wrong, well, I’m here to tell you that you have been doing it wrong and there is a right way to wash your face whether you’re trying to perk up in the morning or wind down at night.
First things first, you have to pick the right product for your skin. Everyone is different so the suggestion from your best friend might not be best for you. Do you tend to be dry? Or are you oily? These are things to consider when you are buying a face wash.
Easy on the exfoliating, a few times a week is just enough to get the dead skin cells off your face. Most of us wash our faces twice a day. When we wake up in the morning and before we go to bed in the evening, but too much can irritate the skin so skip that step if you didn’t sweat or wear much makeup and opt for water instead.
Speaking of the water, what temperature do you use? My guess is that your answer is hot. As comforting as hot water may be, lukewarm water is better for face washing because it protects the natural oils of your skin. The biggest mistakes that people (including myself) tend to make while washing their faces happen when they are done with the actual cleaning and move on to the rinsing and drying. Not rinsing completely can lead to clogged pores so really make sure you get all the soap off your face before you dry off. When you do dry, pat your skin. Rubbing it messes with your skin’s elasticity and nobody wants that. Make sure you are using a clean towel that you use only for your face so there’s no extra bacteria being spread around.
There you have it, the right way to wash your face. It seems pretty simple and self-explanatory, but in the rush of the morning and lag of the evening it’s easy to let these little tips fall to the wayside. The next time you go to cleanse make sure you take the time to do it right.
