Why You Should Eat More Yogurt

There are many benefits of incorporating more yogurt into your diet. This simple ingredient is chock full of good-for-you stuff that should make it a regular part of your meals. And not to mention, it is pretty delicious and can be added as a substitute to many baking and cooking needs.

Keeps Digestive System Healthy

Not only is yogurt easy to digest, it contains live and active cultures that can even help lactose intolerant people enjoy it! Plus, yogurt's bacteria helps keep our colons healthy and can even reduce the risk of colon cancer. Also, since yogurt is high in calcium (which we'll discuss below), it discourages out-of-control growth of cells that line the colon.

High in Calcium

All you need is an eight ounce serving of yogurt to get about 35% of your recommended calcium for the day. Furthermore, the cultures in yogurt help the calcium get absorbed more easily than milk! Personally, I've been using yogurt in place of milk in my smoothies (I just cut it with a bit of water), and they taste delicious!

High in Protein

With between twelve and fourteen grams of protein per serving, it makes a great post-workout snack! I love to sprinkle some toasted almonds on the top of my yogurt and give it a drizzle of honey after a workout. It tastes great and helps my body recover faster.

Lowers Cholesterol

Some newer studies are coming out and supporting the long-held thought that yogurt can help lower bad cholesterol. It's thought that the live cultures take care of it because they bind to our bodies' bile acids.
